Safety management is a critical component of all construction and industrial settings.

groupThe safety management field is growing, with a lot of opportunities for employment and upward mobility.

Our 4-year Safety Management program, offered through the Geography & Geology Department, will prepare you as a safety manager for the natural gas and energy industries as well as numerous occupational health and safety positions that serve other regional industries.

The program integrates the health and human perspectives with the technical and applied sciences related to the safety science discipline. The program addresses the human factors of the safety profession with a focus on communication, ethics, leadership, psychology, and other aspects of occupational health and safety. It also covers the essential components of safety management including: policy, risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion.

When you graduate you will be prepared to:

    • Practice the roles and responsibilities of professional safety personnel.
    • Communicate effectively regarding safety in various settings.
    • Describe the major objectives and operational characteristics of the natural gas industry.
    • Identify and apply relevant laws, standards, and regulations that affect personal and environmental safety.
    • Think critically about the safety management needs of industrial worksite operations during both routine and emergency situations.
    • React constructively to the safety management needs of industrial worksite operations during both routine and emergency situations.
    • Describe the critical human factors that affect the safety at natural gas and a variety of other industrial operations.
    • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and ethical decision making.
    • Lead others in promoting safe work sites.
